Short vacations and long international transit often leave little time for travelers to enjoy themselves as they do at home. Days full of exploration, adventure, sightseeing and activities can continue into long delightful evenings with late dinners, socializing, dancing, laughter, partying and romance.
Who has time for sleep?
Don’t underestimate the power of quality sleep when you’re away from home or traveling on an extended vacation. Sleep deprivation leads to irritability, fatigue, illness, and injury. With poor sleep carrying the potential for ruining an entire trip for everyone, here are 5 tips to make the most of the essential battery recharge.
1. Late night plans? Plan a 15-20 minute mid-afternoon nap for extended battery life into the night.
2. Light sleeper? Use eyeshades, earplugs, fan, or sound machine to block out disturbances.
3. Want to avoid waking in night? Avoid drinking or eating 2 hours prior to falling asleep.
4. Want to set the mood? Reserve the last 2 hours of the day for R & R (Reading & Romance)
5. Want the ideal sleep setting? Be sure to darken your surroundings, set the room temperature to a comfortable temperature from 60-68F, and reserve the bed use for sex and sleep only.
Recharging energy with quality sleep results in happier, healthier travels. Like plugging in smart phones and laptops for another day of portable productivity, allow quality sleep to perform body maintenance with a full recharge. It’s a critical update required nightly for quality travel.

Life is busy. With smart phones, laptops and iPads – quiet moments are rare. It’s common to feel stress all around us and hear people complaining about lack of time not to mention a to-do list that’s too long.
When we finally do take “time off”, the stressful flight process, busy itinerary and constant need to communicate with work or friends can fatigue our already taxed bodies and minds.
It’s time to “reboot”. Like a computer bogged down and running slow, our minds and bodies can always use a good virus scan and restart. Imagine the clarity and efficiency of operating after clearing out all the stress!
A few days at a destination spa in Ireland’s serene and idyllic countryside is a fantastic way to “reboot”. The Temple Country Retreat and Spa says it best, “To relax the mind, first relax the body”. As a former Mayo staff nurse, I appreciate the Mayo Clinic reference and information found on their site explaining self-care:
The Mayo Clinic recommends that we take control of stress by understanding the stress response and how our body reacts. The internationally renowned clinic recommends exercise, relaxation techniques, healthy nutritional choices, social support networks and professional psychotherapy as strategies to successfully manage the impact stress events have on us.
Destination spas are built with health and wellness in mind- providing travelers with much more than just pampering. Two very unique therapies available exclusively at Temple are the ISHI Choco Therapy and Vino Therapy offered in both facials and wraps that work on a multi-sensory level. Essentially based on grapes and chocolate to maximize their indulgent nature, they are an amazing combination of ancient methods and traditions combined with the best of modern and scientific research.
A stay at a destination spa not only helps shut down chaotic stress, it provides insight and tools for a healthier lifestyle at home. The self-care experience keeps on giving long after the experience ends.
It’s time to “reboot” at the fabulous destination spas of Ireland!
